Dr. Rachael Casey received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rush University Medical College. Her graduate work focused on the characterization of a cartilage-specific autoantigen that is up-regulated in rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Casey was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, where she developed cell-based assays to elucidate the role of cell-matrix interactions in ovarian cancer metastasis, and at Rush University Medical Center, where she studied hormonal regulation of chondrocyte hypertrophy and terminal differentiation.
In 2005, Dr. Casey joined USRA and is currently part of the Radiation Biology department at the NASA Johnson Space Center. Her research currently focuses on the development and evaluation of radiation countermeasures against the biological effects of radiation.
