PROGRAM INFORMATION

In 2003, NASA's Bioastronautics and Fundamental Space Biology Divisions developed a postdoctoral research program, in cooperation with Universities Space Research Association's Division of Space Life Sciences (DSLS), to expand microgravity research and educational opportunities. The program represents a proactive approach to the vitally important task of training the next generation of space life sciences investigators.

The Bioastronautics and Fundamental Space Biology (BFSB) Postdoctoral Research Program, managed by the DSLS, is providing advanced training and practical research experience to investigators early in their professional careers. Through national competition, eight outstanding scientists have each been awarded a two-year appointment to research a variety of laboratory and clinical disciplines and are paired with a NASA mentor who provides valuable research assistance, guidance, and other types of support.  The Fellows were chosen from a competitive pool of applicants and were selected based upon their academic achievements, the quality and relevance of their research proposal and their potential in space-related life sciences.
