Senior Research Scientist
ajitkumar.mulavara-1@nasa.gov

Dr. Mulavara, received his B.E. from the University of Mumbai (Bombay), India in 1990 and his M.S. from The University of Akron, OH in 1993, both in Biomedical Engineering. He joined Wyle Laboratories (formerly Krug Life Sciences), in 1995 where he worked on investigating the effects of microgravity on human posture and locomotion control. He continued with his doctoral research and received his Ph.D. from The University of Akron in 1998. He continued his research in the Neuroscience Motion Laboratory at NASA, Johnson Space Center, as Assistant Professor at the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He has since joined USRA in July 2006 as Senior Research Scientist in the Human Adaptation and Countermeasures Office Neuroscience Motion Laboratory. His research interests are in studying the effects of spaceflight on posture and locomotion control and development of countermeasures to mitigate these effects of adaptation to microgravity during short and long duration spaceflight; adaptive plasticity; clinical assessment of sensorimotor pathophysiology underlying movement disorders; the control and rehabilitation of human movement in activities of daily living.
