Dr. Shaowen Hu is a USRA Scientist in the Division of Space Life Sciences, working for NASA’s Space Radiation Program at Johnson Space Center.
Dr. Hu graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Beijing Normal University, China in 1991, and an M.S. in Chemistry from University of New Brunswick, Canada in 2002. In 2006, he completed his Ph.D. study in Chemical Physics at University of Houston with Prof. Donald J. Kouri. His doctorate work focused on mathematical characterization of the dynamics of pattern formation, and theoretical analysis of self-assembly of nanostructures. His research interests include theoretical analysis, data analysis, numerical modeling, large-scale scientific computation, and research programming in chemical, physical and biological systems.
Dr. Hu’s current research involves acute radiation hazards assessment, models of blood-forming systems under normal and irradiation conditions, theoretical/computational study of DNA damage and repair, and mathematical modeling of crypt dynamics and colorectal cancer.
