May 15 18, 2005 A Vision to Explore GENERAL INFORMATION The Workshop will be held from Sunday, May 15 through Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Danfords on the Sound Conference Center on the north shore of Long Island in Port Jefferson, New York. This 16th Annual NASA Space Radiation Investigators' Workshop offers the opportunity for investigators to share the results of their work and to explore new directions of research to benefit the health of space explorers. The Workshop will include plenary sessions and a special forum for invited posters and exhibits. Scientists with a legitimate interest in space radiation research are encouraged to register online before May 2, 2005. Principal investigators receiving NASA funds (including those from the NASA/DOE joint program and the NSBRI) are required to participate. Principal investigators funded by the U. S. Department of Energy are strongly encouraged to attend and participate. Attendance is limited and registration is required. Since a Workshop session will be held at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, please be aware that all foreign nationals visiting the Laboratory must register via the Internet on the BNL Guest Information System (GIS) by March 15, 2005. Workshop participants should choose the Medical Department as the "Department/Division to be Assigned" and Marcelo Vazquez as the "Host." Foreign visitors should also be prepared to show a passport; citizens of the United States should bring photo identification. NASA SPACE RADIATION LABORATORY QUICK COURSE FOR NEW USERS A free course for new users of the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory will be held immediately following the Workshop. The training class requires advance registration (up to 90 days in advance in some cases), completion of an online application form, review of study guides, and some study and review done in advance of the May course. Completion of the course is contingent upon passing examinations in specific areas. Successful completion of the course confirms certification of the user as a “Radiological Worker I” for two years. Follow the links to the schedule (pdf file) and requirements (pdf file). To register for the course and for more information, please contact Patricia Hein at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
