Ronald J. White received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1967, was trained in mathematics and chemical physics at Oxford University and Bell Telephone Laboratories and in physiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He has held positions as Professor of Mathematics and Director of Honors at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Senior Scientist and Manager of Biomedical Research, Analysis, and Planning at the General Electric Company, Houston and Washington, Research Professor of Physiology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Chief Scientist of the Life Sciences Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington, Professor in the Bobby R. Alford Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Communicative Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, and Associate Director of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute. A specialist in space life sciences, biomedical research and mathematical modeling, Dr. White has served as NASA Program Scientist for three Spacelab missions: Spacelab Life Sciences 1, International Microgravity Laboratory 1 and the U.S. component of the German Mission D-2. He has received the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) Luigi Napolitano Literature Award, the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, and the Distinguished Professor Award and the Sigma Xi Award for Research at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He is a member of the IAA (presently serving on their Board of Trustees as Chairman of Section 3, Life Sciences), the Aerospace Medical Association, the American Physical Society and the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology.
